You’ve probably heard the words ‘holistic healing’ touted all over the place, what with the increase in awareness of there being more to health than a couple of days a week at the gym busting those bicep curls. Holistic healing refers to the need to care for all aspects of our body, mind and soul in the quest for total wellbeing. So while the gym and a nutritious diet will to a certain extent maintain the body functions, holistic healing claims to synergistically work with spiritual and mind development as well to improve our health overall.
It’s entirely up to you whether you want to start with improving the health of your body, mind or soul first. It’s probably easiest to start with the one aspect you are most interested in and the rest will follow naturally. For example, if you are interested in strengthening your mind you might look into stress relief strategies or meditation as a start in that aspect. A natural progression as you become comfortable with the ‘mind’ aspect of meditation is to move to the more spiritual or ‘soul’ aspect of meditation (Who am I? Where do we come from?). Other examples of holistic healing therapies include yoga, aromatherapy, self-affirmations, acupuncture, massage, kinesiology, counseling, ayurveda, neural programming and reiki, amongst thousands of other techniques. The idea is to choose a few that interest you and pursue them.
With most holistic healing therapies, you will start to feel positive effects within the first few weeks. Obvious exceptions to this may be anger management counseling or psychotherapy, where things tend to get worse before they get better as an individual learns to face something that they have pushed aside in the past due to it being too painful. However, if you find that one particular holistic healing therapy is not really working for you, give something else a go! You’ll eventually find a good blend of techniques that you can easily fit into your daily schedule that will improve your overall wellbeing.
It’s holistic. So expect huge changes in all aspects of your life! You’ll be more equipped to deal with daily stressors at work and in the home. Your relationships with other people will improve as you improve your relationship with yourself. You will learn to let go of activities and people that don’t make you feel good, and you’ll attract things that make you feel great about yourself. You will feel a sense of accomplishment and a reason to get up in the morning. Holistic healing is all about you. What are you waiting for?
