All food, even a bag of crunchy crisps or a bar of Snickers, has some dietary value. However, certain foods are nutritional powerhouses. These are the “Super Foods” which you should be piling on to your grocery cart and packing in your lunch boxes.
Most fruits and vegetable, fish, poultry and meat are packed with good nutritional supplements; but since we can’t have all foods all the time, it makes sense to pick and choose those which will keep us healthiest. Super foods are those that give us maximum benefits in terms of health and longevity.
The fraternity of dieticians, nutritionists and health food gurus have their particular favourites which vary a little from time to time, but a good guide is that all green and yellow vegetables, nuts, fruits and fish are thumbs up. Here is a list of some super foods although the list does not end there. Apples, beans, broccoli, olive oil, whole grain seeded bread, salmon, green or dark tea, yoghurt, bananas, brazil nuts, spinach, pumpkin, soy, walnuts and blueberries are some super foods.
When it comes to what we put in our bodies, quite obviously, it should be nothing but the best. Super foods are packed with anti oxidants, carotenoids, minerals, vitamins, proteins and phytonutrients and all the stuff that is good for us. Substituting a bag of French fries and cola with super foods as mainstays in our regular eating plan may not be easy at first, but think of the long run.
You can’t eat everything at every meal time, but it is a good idea to have a few of those on the list at your table each day. They are good to eat, they are anti cancer and anti obesity and they will keep your heart pumping longer.
